Hair Basics
Hair strand is made of a
protein called keratin. A single hair has a hair shaft, a root below the skin,
and a follicle. Hair root grows from the follicle and at the lower end of the
follicle is the hair bulb. This is the place where our hair's color pigment, or
melanin, is produced.
Lifestyle habits that cause Hair loss
Common reasons of hair fall
Lifestyle Habits That Are Causing Your Hair Loss
Some major
events in life can cause Disruption of the hair growth cycle temporarily. For example, after delivering a baby, having a surgery,
going through a traumatic event, or having a serious illness or high
fever can temporarily cause shedding of large amounts of hair. The hair we
see on our head has actually taken months to grow, a person might not be able to notice any disruption of the hair
growth cycle until months after the event that caused it. This type of hair
loss corrects itself as the lifestyle
changes…
·
Smoking. Smoking is one of the
fastest accelerators for hair loss,
·
Unhealthy Diet Routine: (having too little
protein in your diet may lead to unwanted hair loss. Take more
protein into your diet by incorporating more eggs, chicken, beans, and
yogurt into your daily meal plan).
·
Regular Beauty
treatments: (Treatments that use chemicals, like hair color,
bleach, straightening, or perms can cause hair damage that causes hair break
off or fall out temporarily. The same may happen when using too much heat
on your hair (like using a hot iron or hot blow drying).
·
Mental Stress: (During
stress, a hormone is released called Cortisol, which can then affect the hair
follicle and result in shedding or hair loss).
·
Diet pills: (contains amphetamines which cause hair loss).
·
Poor Nutrition: (Not eating enough healthy food can
contribute to hair loss. Some people with eating disorders like anorexia
and bulimia lose their hair, because the body isn't getting enough protein, vitamins,
and minerals to support hair growth. Some vegetarians also lose their hair if
they do not get enough protein from non-meat sources. And some athletes are at
higher risk for hair loss because they may be more likely to develop
iron-deficiency called anemia).
Overdose of vitamin
A-containing supplements or medications can trigger hair loss. The daily value
of vitamin A is 5,000 International Units (IU) per day for adults. So any more than that, could risk some strands falling out.
The good news is that, this is a reversible cause of hair loss, and once the
excess vitamin A is halted, hair should start growing normally again.
·
Pregnancy: (It is a type of
physical stress that can cause hair loss (that and hormones). If you do
experience hair loss after pregnancy, be relaxed and assured that your hair
will grow back within few months. "It's a normal thing and it will work
its way out soon).
·
Traction Alopecia: It’s a type of baldness that goes with hair
styling and it can be permanent: Wearing your hair in a style that pulls too
tightly can cause this. Traction alopecia can permanently damage the hair
follicles if you wear a hair style that pulls on your hair too tightly for
a long time. If you are getting your hair styled and if it hurts you, ask the
stylist to redo it so that it is no longer painful. Pain is a sign of too
much traction on the hair and scalp.
· Medical conditions or illnesses: Endocrine (hormonal) conditions, such as
uncontrolled diabetes or thyroid disease, can interfere with hair production
and cause hair loss. People with lupus can also lose hair. The hormone
imbalance that happens in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) can cause hair
loss in both teens and adult women.
·
Medicines: Doctors sometimes prescribe medicines that have hair
loss as a side effect, such as medicines used to treat acne, bipolar
disorder, and ADHD.
·
Alopecia
areata: This skin disease causes hair loss from the scalp
and sometimes elsewhere over the body. About 1 in 50 people get this type of alopecia.
It’s an autoimmune disorder in which hair follicles are damaged by the person's
own immune system.
Alopecia areata usually starts by one or more small, round bald patches on the scalp. These can get bigger. In few cases, the person loses all hair. Both male and female can get it, and it often begins in childhood. The hair usually grows back within a year, but this is not usually common. Sometimes people with this disease lose their hair again. hijama for alopecia areata
·
Trichotillomania
: It is a psychological disorder in which people
repeatedly pull their hair out, often leaving bald patches. This can cause
areas of baldness and damage hairs of different lengths. People with
trichotillomania usually require help from a qualified therapist or other
mental health professional before they can stop pulling their hair out.
·
Androgenetic alopecia. Among adults, this is the
most common cause of hair loss. This is also known as male or female pattern
baldness. This condition is generally caused by a combination of things,
including a person's genes and hormones called androgens. This kind
of hair loss can sometimes start during mid-teen years. It can happen to
people who take steroids like testosterone to build their body mass.medical conditions causing hair loss
Hijama for hair loss
hijama for hair growth
The purpose of Hijama on the scalp is to create the suction, which will open up the hair follicles and promote blood circulation to help maintain the hair, while getting rid of toxins and DHT that builds up underneath the scalp.
- In cupping therapy a small size cup is placed on the scalp which creates suction so that a vacuum is created. This is left on for a few minutes, known as dry cupping, and then it is removed by releasing the pressure. Light incisions are created on the scalp using a surgical blade and then the cup is placed back on the same area and suction is applied to create the same vacuum again. This is where all the toxic blood including chemicals and toxins like DHT are suctioned out. The dark red blood is coagulated into a jelly-like substance and is discarded. This process can then be repeated to other areas of the scalp 2-3 times. You can see, blood accumulating and coagulating within the cup and it turned into a jelly-like substance. There isn’t any discomfort or pain during this whole process.
- Hijama do help in the blood circulation and it’s like micro-needling, perhaps the incisions made on the scalp may induce wound healing and growth stem cells and create new blood vessels in the tissue.
Being
a practicing cupping therapist, I have seen miracle results of patient after
Hijama session. Hijama is extremely beneficial for growing new hair and it

Taking Care of Your Hair
Eating a balanced, healthy diet is extremely
important for a lot of reasons. Healthy foods do really benefit your hair.
If you're losing hair, try using baby shampoo, wash
your hair no more than twice a week, and lather gently. Don't rub your
hair too vigorously with a towel, try using microfiber towels. Microfibers
towels are soft and they reduce frizz and breakage. Hair experts suggest avoid
using blow dryer, they recommend air drying your hair instead. If you really
can't live without your blow dryer, use it on a low-heat setting.
Also important:
having patience and allowing time for hair growth
